It is all about pursuing your passion. You can pursue your hobby by reading a few famous classic poets like William Wordsworth, Robert Frost, Pablo Neruda, Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Dickinson, Rabrindranath Tagore, Sarojini Naidu etc.
Keep a diary besides and scribble your thoughts immediately when you feel like writing. Keep a blog and post your work there. Writing poetry is not enough. If you take your hobby seriously then you need to study poetry, understand poetry and read more and more poets.
Keep a poetry circle. Find friends that share similar hobby and exchange your work. The more you read other poets the deeper your interest will grow in it. Moreover it is a lot more fun to read works of poets you know at a personal level. This will help you to understand their work better.
Your ultimate goal should be to be able to publish your work when you feel you have something worthwhile. There are a lot of poetry writing workshops that are conducted all over the country, try and join one. Also, you can study creative writing and poetry at an academic level as well but no one can teach you poetry, they will only expose you to the creative world!
